Poudre School District hosting Wellington meeting on Oct. 26

Danielle Clark, executive director of communications for Poudre School District, recently sent an email about the community meeting to parents.

Dear Wellington Middle and Poudre High School Families,

As you may have heard, PSD is actively planning for new growth within the district. As part of this plan, we are proposing to build a new secondary school in or near Wellington.

The new school would open in 2020, pending the success of a potential November 2016 Bond election.

PSD values the experience of our parents and we want to hear from those who live in the area, but may not be impacted by the new construction.

We have scheduled an information night at Wellington Middle School on October 26 at 6 p.m. in the gym to discuss how we will accommodate growth in Wellington.

At this meeting, Superintendent Dr. Sandra Smyser and PSD staff will discuss two options:

• Build a new middle school/high school for grades 6-12 in the Wellington area
• Build a new Wellington Middle School and build a new high school on Prospect Road east of I-25.

Your feedback is critical. Specifically, we want to know about your experiences as a middle and/or high school parent and how you would have reacted to these options if they were available when your child was entering middle or high school. PSD will also be sending an email survey to you in November.

Information from the survey and forums will be considered by the Superintendent prior to making a recommendation to the Board of Education in March 2016.

We value your thoughts and opinions and hope you join this important conversation.

Should you have any questions, please contact Lauren Hooten, District Process Manager at lhooten@psdschools.org or 970-490-3009.

Thank you for your continued support of Poudre School District.
