Lissa Hanner – My Colorado

CD
3 stars out of 5
It goes without saying that we live in an incredibly special place. It also goes without saying that Lissa Hanner is quite proud to be a Coloradoan. Hanner’s last album, simply titled My Colorado, is not necessarily a complicated album. Fraught with straightforward, feel-good melodies, My Colorado is quite simply a tribute to Colorado. With a clear John Denver and Judy Collins influence, Hanner sings of the Rocky Mountains, evergreens and aspens, springtime and summer in songs with such titles as “Colorado Colors,” “High Altitude Blues” and “Springtime in the Rockies.” She embraces the Colorado sound, incorporating hints of bluegrass, Americana and folk in her otherwise Western feel. Lissa Hanner’s love for everything Colorado is gracefully highlighted in My Colorado. And how could you blame her?
