At their monthly meeting on May 14 the Wellington Board of Trustees agreed to proceed with developing an ordinance allowing wine, beer and hard liquor tasting events at liquor stores in Wellington.
The state of Colorado regulates tastings by allowing no more than four samples per person of one ounce of beer or wine and a half ounce of hard liquor. Beverages must be served by certified employees of the liquor store. Events are limited to four days per week, 104 events per year, must be held between 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. and cannot be held on Sundays. The town of Wellington is not obligated to follow state regulations but will use them as a guideline in formulating a local ordinance.
At the same meeting, a preliminary plat for the 85-acre Bonfire Subdivision, located on the northeast corner of County Rd. 7 and Washington (Sixth Street) in Wellington, was approved by the board. Super Vac, a Loveland company that makes accessories for emergency vehicles, bought the land several years ago and it was annexed to the city and zoned light industrial. Plans to expand Super Vac on the site were delayed by a weakening economy.
CMC Group, Inc., a design-build and general construction firm based in Denver, plans to purchase 15 acres on the southwest corner of the Bonfire property and construct a building to be leased to Cameron, a Texas firm that makes oil field equipment and has worked with the Colorado oil and gas industry in the past.
Super Vac representative Tammy Sorenson and local Realtor Lou Kinzli were present to answer questions.
A final plat plan must be approved before construction can begin.
